Since 1985 we’ve been offering Japanese garden landscaping services that has enabled our clients in Calgary and throughout Canada to realize their projects. The primary principle behind most of these gardens has been water sequestering, in todays terms a ‘rain garden’.

Fuzei (Elegant) Gardens also specializes in the modern Japanese Garden: design, construction, planning, maintenance and the development or revitalization of special spaces.

We combine scientific arboricultural practice with refined Japanese pruning, planting and management techniques that emphasize atmosphere and beauty.

Our specialties include solutions for species thought challenging such as cedar, juniper, maple and pine.

These techniques also provide management planning tools for Art Hotels, condominium complexes that work toward increasing the value of their plant inventory while streamlining the predictability of maintenance costs for future planning, and reduces maintenance labour that in-house staff must manage.

Our work provides identifying landmarks that increase rental opportunities for tentative tenants, way finding for businesses and visitor traffic while beautifying their spaces. Plant material is used to create identifying Branding for specialty products.

We are a service that is not just for residential clients as Fuzei Gardens & Tree Service Ltd. provides comprehensive consulting and collaboration for colleagues and clients including architects/landscape architects, engineers, and municipalities on tree and landscape solutions, creatively applying Japanese garden techniques for successful solutions.

For larger projects that involve specialized site management such as commercial and institutional restorative spaces we collaborate with various associates: architects, landscape architects & industry peers to facilitate a positive space.

In the process of offering services for all sectors of the gardening, landscaping and urban design industry sectors, private and public, we offer peer-to-peer sub-contracting services in addition to education for successful garden management by the clients’ staff (also public gardens for whom we offer fund-raising opportunities).

Collaboratively we successfully bring together artists, designers, and highly skilled craftsmen that are as passionate about every part of the garden landscape design-build process as we are.

Projects can be facilitated in stages depending on the timing needs of the client. Good gardens take time. Often ‘best’ materials are not always available ‘off the shelf’.

In addition to refined tree/shrub ground cover garden care for our discerning public and private clients we offer for DIY clients, -clients that wish the benefits of our professional services and yet prefer to build and develop their own garden spaces.

In some cases where a specific stone may be required however is not available, we will source the necessary material, whether for colour, sensory form or in shapes that satisfy the design needs.

• Some projects may require creative funding using reused materials that need to be found over time such as the right shape of support post, a tree trunk for a tokonoma display alcove.
• Teahouses or waiting huts and areas also may require posts of natural form. Gates may also require naturally shaped posts. When the right one comes in from maintenance work, after drying or finishing these materials can be delivered and/or arranged as another stage in the gardens development.
• A bridge or ‘waiting hut’ can be built over winter and delivered in the spring.

We collaborate and provide combinations of services in which the design component may only be the verification of a clients’ design, or a smoothing of the functionality of the design:

• Construction may be limited to portions of a garden revitalizing others that require special equipment such as our micro-excavator for small spaces,
•Install special details: gates, paths, paving and walkways, installed stone, stone walls, trees, tsukubai areas (water-features), waterfalls.
• Provide educational expertise and team training through which the client can fulfill their garden objectives whether in technical construction details or planning with education for specialized tree work.
